The two basic shapes in which pendant lights are designed, are conical and dome-shaped. Cone shaped pendant lights provide directional lighting, and can be used to focus on a particular area or piece of furniture, although the light is much brighter in that particular area, these lights fail to light large space.
If your house is modern, you'll probably end up with a beautiful stainless steel or brass finished pendant. I've seen some incredible contemporary designs, specifically the way the glass or steel is cut.
In offices and living rooms, glare can be reduced through the use of pendant lighting. A glare on a computer screen or television screen can be highly annoying. Using appropriately placed fixtures can reduce this glare and create even lighting for more specified spaces. Since these are not easy to move around once it is installed, this consideration should be addressed prior to hanging the light.
Believe it or not, I did not find answering this question difficult at all. The reason is that not too long back I had spent my time on the same thoughts. I had evaluated the ins and outs of both the systems. And I had decided that a mix of the two is the best, with pendant light being the predominant one. Actually, my train of thoughts had led me to further believe that if one does not prefer to have a mix of the two types then hanging lighting would prove to be the better choice among the two.
Forget glass blown shades filled with dead flies; the modern pendant light bears little relation to those old things, although, of course, if you‘re after 1950‘s realism there is no other choice. Most of us, though, would rather have one of the contemporary light fittings that fall in the pendant category - the whimsical, the elegant or the just plain funky.
