If you're looking for a more traditional feel, then you'll probably be interested in Tiffany-style pendant lights. This style is made with stained glass and is usually extremely decorative. The pop of color from Tiffany lights can really make a difference in the style of the room they‘re placed in.
However, when you hang the pendant light over your study table, do you have the same set of expectation? No way - simply dispersing medium amount of light to the entire study room would be a complete wastage. You would rather prefer the light to focus upon your study table and illuminate the table sufficiently such that you do not have to stress your eyes to read. The same can be said about your dining table - you would want the light to focus on the table rather than disperse all around.
There is however one drawback. Most of these lights are designed to push light directly on to the space you want lit. Generally, they are more spot light in nature. And while there are some pendants that disperse light over a wide area, if this is your goal you may need to look elsewhere. Or better still, use a different fixture to disperse light, and use a pendant to highlight certain areas of the room. In most cases, but certainly not all, pendant lights will not be your sole source of light in a room.
